AMERICAN PSYCHO

It's easy to create a sadistic psycho nutball but it is near impossible
to make him or her likable at the same time. When reading the book years ago, I
never imagined anyone being able to pull off Bret Easton Ellis' monster
on-screen but then came the film that proved Christian Bale is one of the
greatest actors alive. There are several disturbing scenes such as Bateman
killing a homeless man and his dog and a weird rape/sick sex game aftermath
that puts the zap on you because most of the violence is off-screen and left to
disturb your imagination. Although the disturbing
film is not one of those I can watch in its entirety over and over again, director
Harron and her star Bale created perfection.
However, there are several scenes that stand out and that can be enjoyed
over and over again like Bateman and his colleagues one upping each other with
their business cards and an amusing hatchet job synched to the Huey Lewis jam “Hip to Be Square.” The dance during the
scene is the best.
Also – there is a hard supporting role by Dafoe.
